He is renowned for his strong voice and incorporation of R&B and hip-hop,and has been hailed as a trailblazer of soul-trap.Wave made his name known by releasing the hit song of the year "Heart on Ice" that went viral through YouTube and TikTok and hit 25 on the Billboard Hot 100. Wave's first album Ghetto Gospel (1999) reached number 10 on US Billboard 200. The second album, Pray 4 Love (2020) peaked at the top of the Billboard 200 at number 2,[99. The album featured the hit song "Rags2Riches" which peaked at number 12 on the Hot 100. The third album, SoulFly (2021), was his debut album at the number 1 spot. It was his first top-chart album. Wave's professional career started in 2016 when he released the first installment of his mixtape Hunger Games Vol.1. Before joining Alamo Records, he released several mixtapes on his own. His mixtape PTSD was released on June 14 on the 14th of June, 2019. The mixtape included the track "Heart on Ice". The song became viral on YouTube and TikTok and reached the top spot at 25 on the Billboard Hot 100. [7] Wave's debut album, Ghetto Gospel, was released on the 1st of November 2019. It peaked at 10 on the US Billboard 200. On April 3, 2020 Rod Wave released his second album, "Pray 4 Love". It debuted at number 2 in the Billboard 200. A deluxe edition was released on August 7. Nine songs from the album charted on the Billboard Hot 100, including "s" (featuring ATR Son Son),[11][12][13that peaked at number 12 on the Hot 100 and became his highest-charting hit song. Wave was in XXL's 2020 freshman class on August 11, 2020. Wave spoke to XXL's 2020 freshman Class in July of 2020 that he was in the process of working on his third album. It was originally due for August 27, 2020. Two years later, he revealed the track list for the album SoulFly on March 6, 2021. [16][17] His highest-charting songs, "Street Runner", was also included in the album. It reached number 11 on the Hot 100. [18][19(1919) Wave released the track "Nirvana" in late 2021. This caused some controversy as many thought it was a suicide track however, which Wave was adamantly against. [20]
